Oregon Backflow Testing Requirements
Oregon’s OHA requires annual backflow testing by certified BATs to protect public water systems.
Oregon Health Authority Requirements
Annual testing is required for all backflow prevention assemblies (OAR 333-061).
Testing must be completed by an OHA-certified Backflow Assembly Tester (BAT).
Tests are required:
After installation of a new device
After relocation or repair of an existing device
Annually, as part of ongoing compliance
Property owners are responsible for ensuring devices are tested on time.
Water purveyors may disconnect service if compliance is not met.
Why Annual Backflow Testing is Important
Backflow can allow contaminants to enter the public water supply, creating health risks for the community. Oregon’s program ensures safe, clean drinking water by requiring regular testing. Staying compliant protects your property, your neighbors, and the entire public system.
